In a World where we are divided by various names- being a bigot isn’t uncommon.
Right now, maybe I might be deemed as one too, for I am expressing MY opinion here-HOWEVER, what makes me different from a typical bigot is how I really am not trying to change your perception but I am trying to challenge it.
A bigot, as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary: : a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance.
‘Live and Let Live’ is the way of life I learned from my grandfather. He was a staunch believer, but accepted anyone as who they were. Growing up, he taught me the most valuable lesson I can vouch no course, no degree, no internship or job has taught me: to treat everyone equally.
What is defined as ‘right’ in my dictionary doesn’t necessarily has to be the same in yours.
Religion, class, color, creed, race, sexual-orientation DOES NOT matter- if you start looking for flaws, you are going to find them in almost everyone. But remember, those flaws are all subjective.
Respect everyone as ‘human beings’ and maybe you will learn to live in harmony.
If I am praying to a snake, it’s because that’s MY BELIEF-not yours.
If I am marrying into same sex, it’s because that’s MY BELIEF- not yours.
If I believe there exists after-life, that is because it is MY BELIEF-not yours.
If I provoke your beliefs and/or force them upon you, that’s because I am an idiot and a downright bigot, and clearly lacking the basic human skill: respect for others.
I RESPECT YOUR BELIEFS but that DOES NOT MEAN I HAVE TO ACCEPT THEM AS MY OWN.
